TwinStars FC Split Weekend Matches

A pair of key NPSL Midwest Central matches were played at Prairie Seeds Academy this weekend. With the top three clubs within five points of each other in the standings, nothing changed with the results.

Minnesota faced Milwaukee Bavarian SC on Saturday night and came away with a convincing 3-0 victory. On the scoreboard just three minutes into the match, the TwinStars FC cruised to the win despite playing the entire second half a man down.

2007 Minnesota Mr. Soccer (St. Bernard's HS) Keido Pour (3') scored what would be the gamewinner early on for the TwinStars. A second goal by Michael Greene in the 20' seemed to slow any thought of a Bavarian SC comeback. Just before halftime, Milwaukee did get an advantage as a red card was shown to Greene for a dangerous play between he and Milwaukee goalkeeper Josh Rohde (UW-Milwaukee).

Milwaukee could not capitalize on the advantage though and Minnesota dominated play most of the second half. Robbinsdale Armstrong grad Mathew Nyuah scored his third goal of the season in 57' to allow the TwinStars FC to cruise to the victory. Goalkeeper Erik Hundevad (Waldorf College) earned his second clean sheet of the season.

On Sunday Minnesota played host to conference-leading Madison 56ers. Temperatures at kickoff were 92-degrees and the energy level showed early on. Madison striker Anthony Santaga (13') put the 56ers on the board early and the TwinStars frustration showed on the pitch. Minnesota did battle back and looked for an equalizer, but a late first-half PK was awarded to Madison (converted by Jerry Maddi).

The two goals proved to be enough as the offense of Minnesota was unable to amount a sustained attack. Madison (7-1-0; 21 points) earned the 2-0 victory and remains on top of the NPSL Midwest Central table. Minnesota (5-3-1; 16 points) trails Madison and second-place Milwaukee (6-3-0; 18 points) with two weeks left in the regular season.

Former Totino-Grace goalkeeper Ryan Onwukwe, currently at UW-Parkside, was excellent in the net for Madison while earning the clean sheet.

NOTES: Minnesota will travel to Wisconsin next weekend to face the same two clubs (Milwaukee on Saturday and Madison on Sunday). Follow the TwinStars FC on Twitter for details: @TwinStarsFC
